US Youth Soccer Regional Champions Qualify for 2017-18 National League
League returns to 14U-18U format for upcoming season
FRISCO, Texas (July 13, 2017) — The US Youth Soccer Regional Championships wrapped up on July 4, as 48 Regional winners or finalists in the 13U through 17U Boys and Girls Divisions earned automatic qualification into the prestigious US Youth Soccer National League for the 2017-18 season.
The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues (Eastern Regional League, Midwest Regional League, Southern Regional Premier League and Far West Regional League). The National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development.
There are three means to earning automatic qualification into the National League:
- 48 Regional Championship winners/finalists (listed below)
- 64 returning National League division top-four finishers
- 124 Regional League qualifiers
For a list of qualification spots and current automatic qualifiers, click here. Should any team claim two or more automatic spots, or if a team does not accept its automatic spot, those unfilled spots are filled through an open application process, which came to a close July 6.

*Slot becomes open as Regional Championship winner/finalist has already qualified for next season’s National League via its finish in the 2016-17 National League Season
Teams that earn their spot in the National League have a proven track record of success in US Youth Soccer regional and national competitions, and are among the nation's best as every team has earned its place in the league based on previous and continued individual success, regardless of location or club affiliation. The National League provides an avenue for teams to play in meaningful matches against top competition from across the country for continued development and opportunities for exposure at the collegiate, professional and National Team levels.
The National League’s alumni have gone on to prove themselves at the collegiate and professional levels, with former players competing in NCAA Division I, II and III, Major League Soccer, National Women’s Soccer League, the UEFA Champions League, the Olympics and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The top pick in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and the last three NWSL Drafts (2015-17) have each been former National League players.
Some National League alumni who have appeared for the U.S. Men's National Team include Jordan Morris and Walker Zimmerman, while Morgan Brian, Samantha Mewis and Emily Sonnett have appeared for the U.S. Women's National Team.
In addition to recruiting opportunities, the top finishers from each National League division will earn a ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championships, making each match valuable and creating an added element of pressure as players compete for a chance play for the National Championship.
The US Youth Soccer National Championships is the oldest and most prestigious youth soccer national championship competition in the country. Through the first nine years of play, National League teams have gone on to claim 47 of a possible 68 National Championship titles. The 2017 National Championships will be held July 25-30 at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas.
