Job Description: Executive Director

The Cedar Valley Soccer Club (CVSC) Executive Director will be a full time employee and will report directly to the Board of Directors.  The primary responsibility of the position is to provide leadership and administration of the operational plan, budget, programs and services of CVSC.  The duties and responsibilities will be as described below, as well as any other tasks appropriate to the position that may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

Duties/Responsibilities

Board Support:

  • Assist the Board of Directors in the development of short- and long-term strategic goals for the club. Establish plans to implement these goals. Monitor strategies and policies for effectiveness.
  • Attend monthly BOD meetings and provide regular updates and reports on all matters impacting CVSC including management, budget issues, strategic plan, projects, programs and events.
  • Handle requests that come from the President, BOD, Program Managers and committee chairpersons.
  • Maintain and monitor adherence of the CVSC Bylaws, Policies and Procedures.
  • Facilitate/coordinate all CVSC meetings and special events.
  • Promote/Oversee CVSC policies with the membership.

Office Management:

  • Ensure proper staffing and training of all employees.
  • Establish and maintain job descriptions and performance standards for all employees.
  • Manage staff of the CVSC including the current DOC, Fields/Complex Director and internal bookkeeping/admin staff. 

Fiscal Management:

  • Prepare and manage the CVSC Budget and the budgets of programs administered by the CVSC.
  • Assist the Treasurer and Program Managers in the development and management of their respective budgets, and provide other budget assistance as needed.
  • Assist in any external or internal audit.
  • Oversee the CVSC revenue stream to ensure compliance with all payment procedures.
  • Monitor (along with the treasurer) all savings, checking accounts and investments to maximize returns.
  • Review, as needed, all lease agreements, contracts and sponsorships and make appropriate recommendations regarding renewals.

Fund Raising:

  • Actively seek and secure new contracts/agreements for scholarships, grants, sponsorships and donations for CVSC events, programs and activities.
  • Timely preparation of proposals and grant applications. Responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities.

Marketing/Public Relations:

  • Serve as a liaison between the Association and all member clubs and leagues.
  • Actively promote CVSC programs to secure new members.
  • Supervise the publishing of all CVSC sponsored publications.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled Board Meetings and other CVSC meetings/functions as requested by the Board.
  • Represent CVSC across all levels of the soccer community - local to regional. Serve as a delegate to the Iowa Soccer Association and attend meetings of that organization, acting as the liaison of the Board of Directors.
  • Create and administer a survey mechanism for parents, players, coaches and staff in an effort to collect meaningful feedback regarding the effectiveness of all parts of the club’s soccer operations.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 5 years supervisory experience and experience with non-profit fundraising, sales or marketing are strongly recommended.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required and advanced degree in finance, business administration, or non-profit management or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse volunteer organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build stakeholder relationships.
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with a proven ability to set and achieve goals and objectives in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Committed to working a non-traditional work schedule.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and effective decision-making.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and effective fiscal management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks and data base management.
  • Knowledge of the soccer community and issues affecting youth soccer is desirable, but not mandatory.
